Though individuals need to make lifestyle changes to ensure the sustainability of our earthly home; some changes must be made at the municipal, national or even global level. Glenys Verhulst presents details of the Saanich Climate Action plan which has a goal to reach 100% renewable energy and 80% greenhouse gas reductions in the community by 2050. (The municipality of Victoria has a very similar plan). Ms. Verhulst details how Saanich is working towards these goals from reducing fuel consumption of public transit to implementing solar hot water in public buildings, and she lays out practical ways we can support substantive changes in the communities in which we reside. Her presentation is relevant far beyond the municipality of Saanich as she brings over a decade of experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate action programs and helps us to see how much can be done if we work together.
