Canon Pastor Dyan Davison Retires
It is with sadness that we announce that Dyan Davison has retired from her role as canon pastor for the diocese. We are grateful for the kind, thoughtful, and diligent way Dyan has fulfilled that role; she will be sorely missed. In the interim, as we search for a new canon pastor, The Ven. Eric Partridge, the executive archdeacon, will be the person to contact for canon pastor’s issues (epartridge@bc.anglican.ca, tel: 250-386-7781, ext. 248). |

Scenes from the Life of God's Ex-WifeA John Albert Hall Lecture - Thursday, October 19, 2023 You're invited to the upcoming John Albert Hall lecture Scenes from the Life of God's Ex-Wife. The lecture will take place October 19, the from 5-6:30pm in The Hickman Building. All are welcome and there is no registration in advance. About the Lecture God was not always a solitary deity. As biblical texts and ancient Hebrew inscriptions suggest, this was a deity networked into a wider heavenly household: God not only had a father, the ancient god El, but he also had a wife, the powerful goddess Asherah. In this talk, Francesca Stavrakopoulou will explore the gender dynamics of these relationships, and consider how and why the goddess fell out of favour with her divine husband and his worshippers. Biography Francesca Stavrakopoulou is Professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Religion at the University of Exeter, UK. Her most recent book, God: An Anatomy, was awarded the PEN Hessell-Tiltman Prize and shortlisted for the Wolfson History Prize. Her work in TV and radio includes presenting the BBC TV series The Bible’s Buried Secrets. For more infomation visit: http://bc.anglican.ca/events/scenes-from-the-life-of-gods-ex-wife/2023-10-19
