The bishop of the Anglican Diocese of British Columbia seeks a full-time vicar for Christ Church Cathedral.
BACKGROUND The Diocese of British Columbia is a regional expression of the Anglican Church of Canada, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, and one part of the whole body of Christ. Our diocese is on an exciting journey as we seek, through our diocesan vision, to become renewed people with renewed hearts and renewed spirits.
Christ Church Cathedral has served the spiritual, social and cultural needs of Victoria and the Diocese of British Columbia for over 150 years. Its soaring building is both a tourist attraction, and a peaceful place for prayer and meditation for all. In addition to its role upholding and serving the priorities of the diocese, the Cathedral is a parish home for more than 500 people. It is this parish community in particular for whom we seek a vicar.
OUR MINISTRY Within the Cathedral’s larger mandate, those who see the Cathedral as their parish home have the same needs and aspirations as other faithful communities. Our current strengths are in the areas of liturgy, music and the arts, and attentiveness to pastoral care. We are actively seeking to enhance our ministry with children, youth and families, and we see adult faith formation as an area needing new and strong leadership. The Cathedral styles itself as “a Cathedral for the City,” and in this regard we are working to develop relationships with neighbours and agencies who seek the common good.
