Voting for the 15th Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada begins today. Our own Canon Ian Alexander (Prolocutor) from Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria received the Primatial Cross from acting Primate, The Most Rev. Anne Germond, for safekeeping until a new Primate is elected.

This beautiful cross was commissioned and first presented at the General Synod of 1937. The role of Prolocutor is elected by ballot after an open nomination and can be a member of the clergy or lay people. Their duties include advising the Primate, committees and councils as required, to take action on matters referred to them by the General Synod, to propose actions and to make sure the Council of the General Synod fulfills its responsibilities.
