Mount Douglas Housing Society

Mount Douglas Seniors Housing Society began when the Anglican Church Women (ACW) started a “Care of the Elderly” fund in 1966. Construction began in 1970, and the result is the 55 affordable units for adults and seniors we see today.  

In 2023 they were voted the Best Retirement Community in Greater Victoria. 

The Orchard

The Orchard is a seniors’ residential facility (65+) in Cadboro Bay, BC intended for people capable of living active, independent lives. No meals, housekeeping or services are provided. Living in the Orchard is similar to living in a condominium, except that the suite is leased by St. George's Housing Society (SGHS) to the Resident. 

The Orchard, built in 1993, has 20 suites that are occupied on the basis of a life-lease Occupancy Agreement with SGHS. All suites are one bedroom plus a den. There are two floor plans.  18 suites are 833 square feet and the remaining 2 suites are 911 square feet. 

There is an abundance of common space in The Orchard. This includes two large lounges, a full kitchen and dining area (which Residents may use to entertain family or friends when numbers are too large to fit into the suite), a small guest bedroom, a workshop/hobby area, and landscaped grounds. Garden plots are available for Resident use. 

St. John's Court

The St. John's Court Society is a body formed from members of the Anglican Church of St. John the Divine set up to operate St. John's Court, a low-cost seniors' housing enterprise. Financed by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the court was opened in 1975. 

There are 18 one-bedroom units and a 2-bedroom suite for the caretaker. 

A board of directors is elected each year by the Society members at an Annual General Meeting held in February.  The aims of the non-profit society include the care and comfort of the residents and the proper care of the property. 

St. Peter's Crescent Society

Parishioners of St. Peter Quamichan Anglican Church form the membership of St. Peter's Crescent Society. Beginning in the 1960's, the society has built, and now manages, 14 rental suites for limited-income seniors adjacent to St. Peter Quamichan Anglican Church in Duncan, BC. 

Applications to the waiting list are received on an ongoing basis and tenants are invited from the list of applicants as homes become available. Independent seniors with an annual income of less than $26,000, and assets of less than 100,000 are eligible to apply.

Dawson Heights

Dawson Heights offers assisted living at a variety of locations; The Oaks, The Cedars and The Dawson. The Oaks used to be known as the Cottages site and is currently in the application process to be redeveloped. The Anglican Diocese of Islands and Inlets is supporting the building of  independent housing options for ages 55+ and have a variety of studio, one bedroom and two bedroom units available.

St Andrew’s Abbeyfield Housing Society is an independent Society located in Sidney BC.  The Society provides small-scale housing to 9 independent living seniors. Members of St Andrew’s Church were very instrumental in raising funds to establish Abbeyfield, hence the name of the Society.  An ongoing positive, supportive relationship exists between the two entities in non-financial ways recognizing the independence of Abbeyfield house.

St. Peter Abbeyfield is a senior’s living facility. It offers 12 main level suites with common living for dining, laundry and activities. It was built in 1988 and is non-profit subsidized housing for seniors and a registered charity.
