The third in our Living the Vision in Place webinar series explores the topic of lay ministry. Lay Ministry and Leadership Formation is one of the directions of our diocesan vision because the vocation of all the baptized is a vital and ongoing part of our lives as people of faith.
The ministry we exercise in formal and quotidian ways is God working in and through us. In many contexts it is an unsustainable and unrepeatable expectation for all our church leaders to be educated and trained in the way that has become the norm. The role of lay ministry in the future ife of the church is arguably more important to understand today than in recent history, and new models of ministry formation need to to be identified and evolve with us.
Since the start of the pandemic our National Indigenous Ministries has been working on a circle of support and formation for lay ministers. In this webinar, National Indigenous Anglican Archbishop Mark MacDonald will share the story of this work in setting people free to exercise their ministry as lay leaders in communities across the Anglican Church of Canada.
Read about this model of ministry in a July 22 Anglican Journal article.
The Most Rev. Mark MacDonald became the Anglican Church of Canada’s first National Indigenous Anglican Bishop in 2007, after serving as bishop of the U.S. Episcopal Diocese of Alaska for 10 years. In 2019 Bishop MacDonald was elevated to archbishop.
He has had a long and varied ministry, holding positions in Mississauga, Ont., Duluth, Minn., Tomah, Wis., Mauston, Wis., Portland, Ore., and the southeast regional mission of the Diocese of Navajoland. Immediately prior to his ordination to the episcopate, Archbishop MacDonald was canon missioner for training in the Diocese of Minnesota and vicar of St. Antipas’ Church, Redby, Minn., and St. John-in-the-Wilderness Church, Red Lake, Red Lake Nation, Minn.
