The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of British Columbia seeks a part-time (.6FTE) incumbent for the Parish of Salt Spring Island.
BACKGROUND
The Diocese of Islands & Inlets is an equitable employer that operates on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Broughton Archipelago. As an institution we acknowledge the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka'wakw nations whose relationship with these lands and waters is ongoing. We acknowledge our role in the historic dispossession of land, language, and culture, and are committed to being a part a reconciliatory path forward. We are a regional expression of the Anglican Church of Canada, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We are a progressive church where seekers are welcome to receive communion, baptism, marriage, and ordination on an equal basis.
OUR MINISTRY
The Anglican Parish of Salt Spring Island is located on the largest of the Gulf Islands, a group of islands scattered between the southeast coast of Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. The island is a place of great natural beauty known for a thriving art community.
The parish primarily worships and gathers at All Saints-by-the-Sea in Ganges and owns two other church buildings: St. Mark’s in Central and St. Mary’s in Fulford. Rooted in the Anglican tradition, worship reflects the diversity and creativity of the people who make up the parish. Average Sunday attendance is around 75. The parish is actively involved in living out their faith through many different programs, some of which are housed in the parish’s buildings.
The parish looks for an incumbent to serve part-time at .6FTE who will be present and engaged with the life of the island, lead its diverse congregation in worship, and help them create and live out a vision for their particular time and context.
