The AbbeyChurch is an inclusive, Christ-centred worshipping community who meet on Sunday afternoons at 4pm at Quadra and Balmoral (at First Met United’s building). Any and all are welcome to join us for story, song and sacrament. Please do come as you are! We’re informal but reverent. We’re intergenerational and have a children's program for 6-13 year olds during the worship. We’re musically eclectic and draw on poetry and music from both inside and outside the church. We draw on ancient liturgical tradition and invoke creativity in our times together. We affirming of 2SLGBTQIA+ folk without limitation and are intentional to lift up BIPOC voices in our preaching and common life. The AbbeyChurch is formally a ministry of the Emmaus Community, who draw on monastic practices and make commitments to prayer, presence and simplicity. Emmaus members pray together most weekdays, seek the common good of our neighbourhood - and are exploring the creation of an urban monastic expression through co-op housing (see also www.emmauscommunity.ca). Some AbbeyChurch folks are connected with Emmaus Community, while others are not. We’re good with that! Both Emmaus Community and The AbbeyChurch are a shared ministry of The Anglican Church of Canada and The United Church of Canada. We’d love for you to come by or drop us a line if you’re curious!
