In order to carry on the work of Synod (governing body of the diocese) between its sessions, the diocesan council meets on a regular basis. The membership of this council is determined by canon law.
Diocesan council, made up of elected and ex-officio members and diocesan executive staff who are non-voting, meets monthly (except during July and August) to oversee the business of the diocese. It has the powers and functions, where appropriate, of the synod between synods, except for those acts which are reserved to be performed by Synod itself. The slideshow above is of Diocesan Council's March 2017 journey to Cormorant Island to meet with the chief, council and elders of the 'Namgis First Nation. This trip was a significant step in our Sacred Journey towards truth telling, healing and reconciliation with the First Peoples of these islands and inlets. Visit our YouTube channel to read more about this meeting and visit reentersacredjourney.ca to learn more about the work we are doing to heal broken relationships with First Peoples.
