Bishop writes for Times Colonist
Following the recent liquidation of the Hudson's Bay Company, Bishop Anna Greenwood-Lee has written a piece for the Times Colonist's Spiritually Speaking blog about the HBC's role in colonizing and selling off land on Vancouver Island. Bishop Anna writes about how our diocese profitted from this sell off and the dangers of the church becoming entangled with empires. To read the full piece, CLICK HERE. |

National Volunteer Week
Happy National Volunteer Week! The theme this year is Volunteers Make Waves. To quote the national volunteer.ca website, the theme was chosen because, "...It highlights the power, impact and importance of individual and collective volunteer efforts across Canada. Like a wave, volunteering is movement building. Water is in constant motion, always flowing, shifting, and transforming with every powerful wave or quiet ripple. And so is each volunteer’s contribution toward creating impact in our communities." We could not agree more with this statement. There are countless volunteers across our Diocese of Islands and Inlets that make so much possible in their communities. We lift up their service and gifts and thank them for all that they do. Clergy Conference 2025 & Lay Worship Leader WorkshopMonday, May 5 - Friday, May 9 From Monday, May 5 to Thursday, May 8, the clergy of the diocese will gather for our annual Clergy Conference in Parksville. This is a time to worship and learn together, share the joys and challenges of ministry, and enjoy each other's presence. This year's speakers are Bishop Jeffrey Lee and Dent Davidson, whose topic is "Making Believe: Feed My Sheep." The conference will be an opportunity to reflect on recent experiences of the Easter liturgy in our own contexts, and then joyfully—even playfully—try on practices together that might be pathways to even more vivid celebrations of the liturgy. Thanks to all those at St. Anne and St. Edmund, Parksville, for hosting the clergy and to all those who are carrying on the ministry of parishes throughout the diocese while their clergy are away. On Friday, May 9, Dent Davidson will lead a workshop for lay worship leaders, the first offering of its kind in the diocese for those who have completed the 8-week course. Thanks to St. Paul, Nanaimo for hosting this gathering. |
