Congratulations to Yvon Gesinghaus
Congratulations to Yvon Gesinghaus for her election to the Anglican Council of Indigenous Peoples (ACIP) at the 11th Sacred Circle last week! YVONNE GESINGHAUS Yvon (Yvonne) was born in Alert Bay and raised by her grandparents, Emma (Elag’a) and Simon (Si’pa) Beans. Yvon’s blood lines are with the Kwakiutl, Mamaliliakala, Nuu-Chau-nulth and Nam’gis First Nation, and German from her father. She is a member of the Nam’gis First Nation. Yvon has participated in the Anglican Church from a young age at Christ Church Alert Bay and in the homes of the Nam’gis citizens and were delivered in Kwa’kwa’la. Prior to her retirement Yvon served as Executive Director for the Musgamagw Tsawataineuk Tribal Council, and as Treaty Coordinator for the Te’mexw Treaty Associations. She is the chair of the Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw contextual church and has been an advisor to the synod office for a number of years. Yvon has started studying at Vancouver School of Theology in 2022. Lay Leadership in Worship CourseRegistration is now OPEN The Diocese of Islands and Inlets is presenting its third offering of the Lay Leadership in Worship course from mid-September to early-November 2023. The course will provide the skills and resources for laity to lead worship services, Morning and Evening Prayer and the Liturgy of the Word (a church service without the Eucharist). To date, 50 lay leaders have been successfully trained in the Diocese. Regardless of their knowledge and experience, all participants go on to deepen their understanding of liturgy and the Offices, and gain confidence to become more effective leaders of worship. Please note: You must have your safechurch training complete, a valid Criminal Record Check on file and a signed policy form submitted to the synod office PRIOR to registration. Registrations without these requirements in place will not be processed. DEADLINE TO APPLY: June 30, 2023 Dates and location: 1. Via Zoom, on Thursdays from 7pm - 9pm on September 14, 21, 28, October 12, 19, 26, November 2. 2. Three months of mentored practical experience in your parish/region, followed by a final Zoom class on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Cost: Free; however participants must purchase their own copy of the required reading well in advance of the course. Youth Programming 2023Safe Church Liaison Training - June 13, 2023 On June 13, 2023 at 11am, there will be a training session discussing Youth Programming in parishes. All Safe Church Liaisons for each parish should be present if they have or are considering creating children's programming at their parish.
