Transforming Futures has officially launched! With Trinity Port Alberni’s official kick off on Sunday March 9 the campaign is active in the diocese. Bishop Logan attended their service and was encouraged to see their vitality and excitement as they take the next step in making their community a place where “everyone is welcome” is much more than a slogan. A grant from the Rick Hansen Foundation gave their project a $20,000 boost, and they are well on their way to achieving their financial goal. Ladling Out Loveby Susan Down This article was printed in the April issue of the Diocesan Post. It’s Tuesday night in Victoria, and a motorhome parks on Pandora Street, where the sidewalks are still icy from February snows. A volunteer jumps out to festoon a string of lights around the vehicle door. Almost immediately, people find their way in off the chilly, dark street and sit down on the bench seats. Volunteers greet the regulars by name and offer them a cup of hot chocolate or soup. This is Street Hope in action, an Anglican outreach project that feeds people’s spirits as well as their stomachs. Ontario government addresses General Synod pension issuesby Judy Robinson, Pension Office Corporation of The Anglican Church of Canada In its 2019 budget, released on April 11, 2019, the Ontario government announced it will update the Target Benefit Pension Plan framework to include multi-employer pension plans with participating employers outside of the collective bargaining environment. In support of this announcement, we made the attached press release on Canadian news networks. This change impacts the General Synod Pension Plan in the way we have been requesting for the past decade, as we expect it will lead to permanent solvency funding relief for the plan.
