Isabel Weeks to Retire as ChancellorDecember 31 Having served faithfully, steadfastly and seemingly tirelessly for more than five years, Isabel Weeks has discerned that it is time for her to retire as Chancellor of the Diocese. During her tenure as Chancellor Isabel has overseen the re-writing of the Canons and Regulations of the Diocese, created an HR manual and created templates for employment contracts and rental and lease agreements for the Diocese. She has also, in her role as Chancellor, provided the Bishop and the Diocese invaluable legal advice in "matter of discipline or cases of difficulty or doubt." She has done all of this work pro bono. Isabel will be recognized for her service at the November Synod and will continue to be a part of the life of our Diocese and our Church. She will be Chancellor Emerita of this Diocese and will continue to serve the wider church as a board member of the Anglican Foundation and as an advisor to the National Church’s governance working group. We wish Isabel every blessing in her retirement. |

Provincial and General Synod NominationsPathway to Synod Nominations to Provincial and General Synod are open to all who are communicants of at least one year, are equal to or over sixteen years of age, and have been resident within the Diocese for at least three months. Should you have any questions or wish to submit your name for nomination, please email synod@bc.anglican.ca. All nominations must be received by October 15th. Delegates to Provincial Synod Provincial Synod will next meet September 17th and 18th, 2027 at the Sorrento Centre in Sorrento, BC. The Diocese sends three lay delegates and two clergy delegates. Those letting their name stand should know that there is an expectation that a good portion of those who go to Provincial Synod consider letting their name stand for the Provincial Executive or in other roles in the Ecclesiastical Province. Delegates to General Synod General Synod is scheduled for May 8-14th, 2028 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The Diocese sends three lay and three clerical representatives and may also send one youth representative (who must be between the ages of 16 and 26 at the time of General Synod). The Diocese will cover the cost of travel. Again, there is an expectation that a good portion of those who go to General Synod also serve on other national church bodies and consider letting their names stand for the Council of General Synod. |
