T-Birds Loonie Toonie Fundraiser

Join us as we support our partner, Aboriginal Neighbours in this effort to raise fundsfor the T-Bird Youth Soccer Club.

THE EVENT

The loonie toonie auction is fun  - A not-so-silent auction/raffle where participants view the items beforehand and purchase tickets for $1 each - placing one or more tickets in a basket in front of the items they'd like to win. A ticket is drawn for each item and the winner takes home the prize.

T-BIRDS

Each year, Aboriginal Neighbours helps organize the T-Bird soccer fun day, which parishes of the diocese have participated in.

Monies raised from the Loonie Toonie fundraiser go towards the costs of running the soccer club and makes it possible for 60 players aged 5-16 to participate in the big annual "Indian Summer" soccer tournament which sees First Nations' soccer teams from along the West Coast down to Washington State playing each other and culminates in a game in Alert Bay.

About Aboriginal Neighbours

In the 1980s in their attempts at reconciliation, Canadian churches began to offer apologies for their part in the historical attempts to eradicate the spirituality and cultures of the Indigenous Peoples, and to look for ways to live out those apologies. As a part of these actions, Aboriginal Neighbours was founded by an act of the Anglican Synod of the Diocese of British Columbia, welcoming Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal members. The group has grown to include the Victoria Presbytery of the United Church of Canada and the Vancouver Island Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Aboriginal Neighbours welcomes people who share a desire to build relationships and trust between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities.
